Head's Welcome

I am delighted to serve as Headteacher at Checkendon Church of England Primary School and to welcome you to our community.

I am married with children, and when I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, baking, and exploring new places. Over the past 18 years in education, I have worked as a classroom teacher, SENCo, and Assistant Headteacher. These experiences have shaped my understanding of how children learn best, and how to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment where every child can thrive.

At Checkendon, we believe that a positive learning environment is one where every child feels welcomed, valued, and supported. We encourage curiosity, celebrate effort, and view challenge as a vital part of learning. Children are encouraged to take risks, learn from mistakes, and develop a growth mindset that will serve them well throughout life. Our aim is for every pupil to discover their unique voice, flourish in their abilities, and leave primary school with high aspirations, fond memories, and a readiness to make a positive impact in the world.

Our curriculum is broad, rich, and carefully sequenced, designed to develop children academically, socially, spiritually, and creatively. We provide a range of hands-on experiences, visits, and opportunities to explore, experiment, and shine in their own way. Teachers carefully track learning and adapt teaching to ensure all children, including those with additional needs or from disadvantaged backgrounds, make strong progress.

Safeguarding is our highest priority. All staff are trained to ensure children are safe, supported, and able to thrive, and we have robust systems in place to monitor wellbeing and behaviour. We also promote inclusion, equality, and respect, ensuring that all children are treated fairly and can access the curriculum fully.

We value strong partnerships between home and school, which we know are essential for happy, successful pupils. We encourage input from children, parents, and the local community in shaping our school. As part of this, I am usually at the school gate in the mornings, so please do come and say hello. If you would like a tour of the school, we would be delighted to show you around—just get in touch.

I look forward to working with you and your children and to continuing to make Checkendon CE Primary School a place where every child can thrive.

Warm regards,

Sarah
